No matter which t-shirt you choose, it will come with some form of manufacturer label. No exceptions, because you know, federal law.
Sometimes these labels are printed, sewn on, or they come as removable tags. Those removable tags are a clothing brands best friend. It allows you to create your own label, which should be in line with your brand standards while still being in compliance with the law. That sort of attention to detail will be sure to give your brand the retail quality finish that all consumers are looking for. Here’s what you need to know in regards to custom neck labels!
Additional Turnaround Time

Image Size
The maximum image size allowed for neck tag printing is 4 inches wide x 4 inches tall.
Font Size
Keep the art moderately bold, we wouldn’t recommend anything super small or detailed because it may not be legible, depending on your shirt style, ink type, and color. So let’s call 3pts the minimum.
Recommended Information
We strongly suggest including the following information in your design: Company Name, Fabric Contents, Country of Origin, and Care Instructions. We’re not responsible if Judge Dredd comes knocking on your door.
Ink Colors
Stock ink colors for tag printing are:
- Black
- Light Grey
- Dark Grey
Custom ink colors are available with a $30 custom mixing fee.
Minimum Quantities
Hale Ink’s minimum order for tag printing is 24 pieces. How the sizes are broken down is entirely up to you. For example, 12 SM, 24 MED, 24 LRG, and 12 XL. Different fabric blends that require new tags will also need a minimum of 24 pieces.
Tear-Away Tags
If your shirts come with tear-away tags, we do not charge to remove those, take that into consideration when choosing your blank t-shirt. Please be aware that tear-away labels will sometimes leave small remnants of the label, those small pieces will not be removed.
Ink Changes
$10 per design, so if you need a color change and you are printing SM, MED, and LRG, it will cost $30 total for the ink change out.
Multiple Color Tag Art
If you want to have multiple ink colors in your neck tags, there is a 72 piece minimum, and it is custom priced. Please contact us for details.
